PURPOSE/SUMMARY

This position will oversee all activities on the production floor, serving as the technical authority, as well as providing leadership and guidance to the staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise production personnel. This may include salaried as well as hourly union personnel.
  • Assess and optimize process capabilities, prioritize process improvement opportunities; innovate and implement process improvements on multiple and moderately complex processes
  • Ensure KPI goals are met for the department; to include but not limited to safety, productivity, scrap, backorder, and WIP.
  • Applied experience of LEAN and Six Sigma tools and methods
  • Support operator training for new and existing processes, products, and equipment
  • Report and identify manufacturing issues and execute solutions using tools such as CIMCO and SPC.
  • Support new product manufacturability and launch into production
  • Conduct time studies to verify or establish process specifications
  • Execute cost improvement activities
  • Write and execute process and equipment validations (IQ, OQ, PQ)
  • Maintain accurate records/documentation related to quality, work in process, test results, measurements, labor and special projects.
  • Assist Engineers in design and fabrication of tools and fixtures.
  • Perform other related tasks as requested or assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Two-year technical certificate or degree in machining plus 5 years machining experience OR 8+ years of related supervisory experience.
  • Previous supervisor or leading teams experience preferred. 
  • Experience in a unionized labor environment
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

•              None

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead production teams
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience completing complex machine setups a plus.
  • Well-developed mathematical and problem solving skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge and the ability to operate the following tools and devices:  mill, lathe, sanders, grinders, drills, micrometers, callipers, indicators, gauges, presses a plus.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
  • CAD and CNC experience preferred 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Lift/Carry 25 lbs                  

Bend/Stoop/Kneel 2 hrs a day                         

Microscope/Fine close work 8-10 hrs a day  

Stand/Sit/Walk 8-10 hrs a day
